GM ANNOUNCES THE CHEVROLET SPARK: THEIR FIRST EV SINCE THE EV1
If the price at the pump has been a huge burden on you, why not give it up all together? In 2013 General Motors plans to introduce the first all-electric car since the EVI. The much anticipated 2013 Spark took center stage at Chevrolet's 100th birthday bash. The cars are already available in Europe and Asia, and are currently being modified to fit stringent U.S. safety standards.
Not only is this vehicle stylish and sleek, it is also anticipated to house some truly impressive mechanics:
The U.S. version of the Spark will be fitted with an 83-horsepower, 1.2-liter four-cylinder engine, the smallest engine sold in any GM model since the days of the three-cylinder Geo Metro almost two decades ago… A five-speed gearbox will be standard, and an automatic option will also be available.
General Motors seems to be taking customer feedback very seriously with this new model. In a statement, GM revealed that “Feedback from participants in Chevrolet’s electric vehicle demonstration fleets in Shanghai (Sail EV), Korea (Cruze EV) and India (Beat EV) are being incorporated into the Spark EV."

The Chevy Volt can only satisfy 50 percent of the GM’s ZEV credit requirement—and that’s only after the car is certified as an Enhanced Advanced Technology-Partial Zero Emissions Vehicle (EAT-PZEV). The current Volt is classified as a conventional hybrid. Therefore, the company must produce either an all-electric car or a fuel-cell vehicle. The Spark could represent the least expensive option for GM to meet the CARB mandate.
