Hoverboard Buyer's Guide

Hoverboards look like mini-segways without handlebars. Simply lean forward to glide forward. Lean back to go in reverse. The more you lean, the faster you go. Tilt one foot down to turn. It even spins in circles if you ask it to. Hyper-intuitive gyro-sensor technology makes them tick and these little boards are actually much easier to ride than you think.

Since top celebrities have been blowin' up social media with their Hoverboards... everybody's gotta have one. Demand is so high that some Chinese factories are cranking them out dangerously fast. Quality control? What's that? We get dozens of emails from China every week that promise super cheap hoverboards, super fast. So, when it comes to shopping for a hoverboard... buyer beware!

We've done our homework, so you don't have to. Follow these five tips and you'll soon be gliding on the hoverboard of your dreams.

1) If The Price Sounds Too Good To Be True... It Is.

If you find a Hoverboard on sale for less than $300, it’s a piece of junk. It will fall apart within a week... or even worse. Some of the particularly crappy ones are exploding!

2) Good Hoverboards Are Made With High-End Components.

Check the battery specs. If the battery is a quality brand name like Samsung or Panasonic, you're on the right track. If not, keep searching.

3) Follow The Wisdom Of Crowds.

Let credible reviews be your guide. Not testimonials, but credible reviews. The more reviews the better. Finding “credible” reviews can be tricky and the best place to find hundreds of hoverboard brands AND credible reviews is Amazon. Amazon takes its review system very seriously. In fact, they recently sued over 1,000 people selling fake Amazon reviews. Check out this list of 4+ Star Rated Hoverboards on Amazon. Look for the ones with the most reviews. We recommend only considering hoverboards with 100+ reviews to be sure you're getting a quality board.

4) What Happens If Something Goes Terribly Wrong?

Does the product come with a warranty? How long is the warranty? Most importantly, can the seller be contacted if something goes wrong? Look for an email address (or better yet, a phone number), then check to see if there's someone on the other end.

5) If You Want Fancy Features... Get Them Now.

They're About To Disappear. Razor USA has just purchased the patent to this technology. They've already sued two hoverboard brands and they'll keep dropping lawsuits until the Razor Hovertrax & the Razor Hovertrax DLX are the only hoverboards in town. So, if you want larger wheels, greater speed, farther range, GPS, Bluetooth speakers or any other advanced features... get them now.

Here Are A Few Good Hoverboards We Recommend.

In addition to the tips above, we can point you in the direction of a few we feel stand out in the crowd. Both the MotoTec Hoverboard and the LazerR Hov-R-Board are manufactured by quality companies we have worked with in the past. We can vouch for the fact they use quality components and good manufacturing processes. Razor USA has a good reputation for high-value products as well. The Razor Hovertrax and Razor Hovertrax DLX are safe bets. The PhunkeeDuck and IO Hawk launched the hoverboard craze. These companies have good reputations and have also had more time to customize and refine their products.
