          4 of 5 stars OSPREY 4410 SCOOTER

I HAVE OWNED AND USED THE ACTIVE CARE OSPREY HEAVY DUTY SCOOTER, (MODE; # 4410), FOR A COUPLE OF MONTHS. RIDE THE RIDE IS VERY GOOD, HOWEVER, DON’T EXPECT THE FULL FRONT AND REAR SUSPENSION TO RESPOND AS WELL AS A CAR SUSPENSION DOES. THE SPEED IS BETTER THAN MOST OTHER SCOOTERS AND ON PAR WITH MOST OF THE FASTER ONES. THE TILLER HANDLES EASILY AND IS COMFORTABLE TO USE AND THE WRAP AROUND HANDLEBARS ARE A NICE TOUCH FOR BOTH LOOKS AND ERGONOMIC COMFORT. BE ADVISED THAT THERE IS NO SLACK IN THE TILLER WHEN STEERING. WHEN YOU MOVE THE TILLER THE SLIGHTEST, THE STEERING RESPONDS IMMEDIATELY. THERE IS PLENTY OF GROUND CLEARANCE EXCEPT FOR RIGHT UNDER THE MOTOR HOUSING WHERE IT DROPS TO ONE INCH. WHEN YOU GO STRAIGHT OFF A HANDICAP CURB-CUT IN THE SIDEWALK THAT PART OF THE HOUSING TENDS TO HIT THE CURB EDGE. HOWEVER I FOUND THAT IF YOU LEAVE THE CURB AT AN ANGLE WHERE ONLY ONE WHEEL LEAVE AT A TIME, THE BOTTOMING OUT TENDS NOT TO HAPPEN. SAFETY PACKAGE THE REAR LIGHTS, SIGNALS, FRONT SIGNALS ARE OK BUT I WOULD RATHER HAVE HAD A STALK FOR THEIR OPERATION THAN PUSH-BUTTONS. THE HEADLIGHT IS MORE TO BE SEEN THAN TO SEE WITH AND I THINK A SERIES OF LEDs WOULD HAVE BEEN BRIGHTER AND USE LESS POWER THAN THE BULB USED. THE HORN IS NOT ONLY DIFFICULT TO FIND THE PUSHB-UTTON FOR BUT IT IS ALSO ANEMIC AND ISN’T EVEN AS LOUD AS THE BACK-UP WARNING ALARM. CHARGING IT FULLY CHARGES WITHIN THE STATED TIME IN THE MANUAL BUT THE CHARGER SOCKET ON THE SCOOTER IS LOCATED IN AN INCONVENIENT PLACE UNDER THE SEAT. THE CHARGER PLUG HAS NO NOTCH, (AS NEITHER DOES THE SOCKET), FOR LINING UP THE PLUG WITH THE SOCKET AND YOU HAVE TO FUMBLE AROUND WITH IT. HOWEVER, I FOUND THIS EASILY REMEDIED BY PUTTING A BLACK MARK ON THE CHARGER PLUG AND ONE ON THE SCOOTER OUTSIDE THE SOCKET AND WHEN THEY LINE UP THE PLUG WILL GO RIGHT IN. IT ALSO MAKES IT EASIER IF YOU ROTATE THE SEAT ONE NOTCH TO THE RIGHT AS THAT WILL MORE FREELY SHOW THE SOCKET FOR PLUG-IN. SEAT THE SEAT IS VERY COMFORTABLE AND ROTATES 360 DEGREES SO LONG AS YOU DON’T HAVE ANYTHING ON THE BACK OF IT, OTHERWISE IT WILL HIT THE TILLER. THE ARMREST BAG ALSO IMPEDS THE ROTATION PF THE SEAT UNLESS YOU MOVE THE TILLER SLIGHTLY FORWARD. THE ARMRESTS ARE ADJUSTABLE FOR HEIGHT AND ANGLE, THOUGH I THINK THE ARMREST BARS, THAT MOUNT THE ARMREST, SHOULD BE SLIGHTLY LONGER TO ALLOW THE RESTS TO BE SITUATED HIGHER. THERE IS ALSO PLENTY OF FOOT ROOM TO SWING IN AND OUT FROM UNDER THE TILLER WHEN THE SEAT IS ROTATED. OPTIONS MOST NON-MEDICARE PROVIDERS ARE OFFERING OPTIONS THAT MOST PROVIDERS WILL NOT MATCH. THE ONES I GOT WITH MY SCOOTER ARE THE CUP-HOLDER, REAR BASKET, FRONT BASKET, 2 REAR-VIEW MIRRORS, A DUSTCOVER, (WHICH I TRADED FOR A WALKER BAG), AN ARMREST BAG AND A TRAILER. THE TRAILER IS A BIT OF A PAIN TO HOOK UP AS THE REAR BASKET MUST BE REMOVED AND TIGHTENED UNDER THE SEAT WITH AN ALLEN WRENCH, (PROVIDED). I HAVEN’T USED THE TRAILER YET AS I HAVE HAD AMPLE CARRYING SPACE WITH THE 2 BASKETS, CUP HOLDER AND ARMREST BAG. 2 75 AMP HR BATTERIES ALSO COME FOR THE PRICE WITH 1 YR IN HOME SERVICE INCLUDED. I ALSO THINK THE SCOOTER COULD BE MADE MORE CONVENIENT BY RELOCATING THE CHARGER SOCKET AND PUTTING A NOTCH ON IT TO MATCH UP WITH THE PLUG AND ALSO TO BE ABLE TO USE THE TRAILER WITHOUT REMOVING THE REAR BASKET AND HAVING A SETUP TO GET RID OF THE ALLEN WRENCH. A NOTE ABOUT MEDICARE. THIS SCOOTER COSTS 3615.00 WITH THE OPTIONS I MENTIONED, FROM A NON- MEDICARE PROVIDER. MOST OF THE PROVIDERS AREN’T MATCHING THE STATED OPTIONS AND ARE CHARGING THE SAME AMOUNT JUST FOR THE SCOOTER. MEDICARE ALLOWS 1170.00 ON THIS TYPE OF SCOOTER BUT THE ONLY PAY 80% OF THAT OR AROUND 900. TO GET THE SAME OPTIONS, (AND TAKE MY WORD FOR IT, YOU WILL USE THEM), THE PROVIDERS ARE CHARGING FOR EACH EXTRA BECAUSE MEDICARE IS PAYING THE STATED 80% OF 1174.00. IF YOU DON’T MIND PAYING ABOUT 200.00 MORE, (FOR BUYING THIS SCOOTER FROM A NON PROVIDER), THEN THAT’S WHAT IT WILL COST YOU TO HAVE IT IMMEDIATELY AND NOT WAIT FOR THE OK FROM MEDICARE. I WOULD RECOMMEND THIS SCOOTER AND GIVE IT 4 OUT OF 5 STARS, LOSING SOME POINTS ONLY FOR THE REASONS I STATED.
